4 Quick Tips for Fixing a Leaking Tap

Do not let the day pass by without fixing that leaky tap. If the drip rate is 10 per minute, that's more than 20 litres wasted water in a month. So now is the right time to fix it.

Why is your Tap dripping?

Foreign material lodged in the internal cartridge could be the most probable cause of a leaking tap. This can cause serious damage. The water supply could also be a source of debris. This is most common if the water lines were not properly cleaned during installation, or if there is no filtration water.

What can you do about a leaking tap?

It is simply a maintenance problem that can be solved without the need for a plumber. You can clean the cartridge and replace it if needed. Tapron Store's Products Team has provided the following steps to allow you to access, inspect and clean the cartridge in a mixer tap.

1. Take out the lever handle.

Turn off the water supply to the leaking tap. Next, remove the lever handle with a provided hex wrench or similar tool. Sometimes, the grub screws are hidden behind the button/cap under the handle. This can be removed by simply pulling it out with your nails.

2. Twist the collar of metal.

The lever handle conceals a metal collar you can twist off easily without any tools. A second collar is hex-threaded. This one is for you to remove with your shifting spanner.

3. Take out the cartridge.

Now you can remove the cartridge and rinse the cavity with water. To maximize flow, the flow restrictor can be cleaned and removed. Check the cartridge for any cracks or blockages in the rubber rings. Flush it with water.

4. Replace the cartridge.

Make sure that there is no debris or foreign material in the cartridge. The cartridge can be reinserted, and then you can repeat steps 1 through 3. Check your tap for leaks and, if none, you can go ahead and replace the cartridge.

What happens if you have to buy a new cartridge?

If your ceramic cartridge is damaged from debris or sediments you can get a new mixer faucet or purchase a replacement cartridge at Tapron Store, if we have the brand you own.
